Youjeong Paik is an interactive artist and designer.
Having studied Applied Art and Digital Design in her native South
Korea, Youjeong wanted to further explore her curiosities in art and
technology which eventually led her to New York University, where
she received her Master's degree from the Interactive Telecommunications
Program (ITP).
While studying at ITP, she found new and unique challenges in physical
computing and interactive design which inspired her to focus her work
in interactive art. Her interests are in the ever expanding ways that
art and design can be infused with technology to create interactivity
between different mediums. While working with abstract ideas in art,
design, and technological applications, Youjeong began creating a
series of art projects that expressed human qualities: Affection,
Emotion, and Loyalty.
Her first project Affection had garnered much interest and recognition
and was displayed at ITP's spring show. In 2007, Youjeong was invited
to showcase her project at Sony Wonder Technology in New York and
Hangaram Design Museum in Seoul Arts Center in South Korea. Currently,
she is working on a collaboration of her project, Loyalty, with the
non-profit Interactive Jazz group, One Soul Fellowship (OSF).
Youjeong observes the beauty in the natural world and tries to recreate
its beauty in her interactive artwork. Her work goes beyond the display
of nature's beauty and art expression. She is deeply interested in
demonstrating the complex relationships that exist between nature
and human beings. By recreating nature's beauties on an artificial
landscape, Youjeong hopes to challenge people's perceptions of the
creation of natural beauty and the relationships that develop between
nature and human beings. |
